GOING IT ALONE? THE RECONCILIATION PROCESS

With polls indicating that the health care restructuring efforts are losing support, Obama and Senate Democratic leaders have signaled their willingness to “go it alone.” Using a complex strategy known as reconciliation, the Democrats could break health reform legislation into two pieces, and push the expansive and expensive budget-related piece through with only 51 votes.
